Schools and Loan Boxes

With over 2000 years of local history, Royston Museum is a fantastic space for your pupils to discover our past.

School Visits

Our workshops are are designed to nurture your pupils' curiosity and inspire conversations, connecting them to people and places, past and present.

WHAT'S INCLUDED?

  • 90 minute facilitate visit with an experienced member of our team at the Museum. Please see below for the visits we offer.

  • A hands-on object-based workshop designed to link to your learning at school.

£60 per class

*Subject to availability. At least two weeks notice is required.

Playtime!

Discover toys and games throughout history. How do the toys we play with today compare to our grandparents and those living hundreds of years ago? Your pupils will get hands on with original and replica toys, think about what they’re made from, who would have played with them and how they compare to toys today.

Suitable for Early Years and Key Stage 1

Prehistoric Royston

Running right through the centre of Royston, the Icknield Way is considered one of the oldest roads in Britain. Your pupils will discover what Royston and the surrounding area was like during the prehistoric period through recreations of local archaeological digs.

Suitable for Key Stage 1 and 2

Royston Through History

65-95 million years ago, the area we now call home was under a warm shallow sea: time travel through millions of years and discover Royston’s history. Using original and replica objects and photographs, your pupils will discover how Royston has grown and changed to become the town it is today.

Suitable for Key Stage 1 and 2

Self-led Visits

With over 2,000 years of history and objects ranging from archaeology, social history and art, there's lots for you and your pupils to explore at your own pace. Bring your own activities, such as sketching and photography, or take advantage of our activity sheets.

Suitable for Early Years to Key Stage 3

Self-led visits are free, but donations are to support the Museum are welcome (Suggested donation £1 per pupil)

Bespoke Visits

Looking for something a little different, or want to extend your pupils' knowledge and understanding further? We're able to offer bespoke workshops and visits, depending on the topic and our availability. Please email us at hello@roystonmuseum.org.uk to find out more.

Loan Boxes

Our loan boxes are designed to support your pupils' learning in the classroom through a range of objects, photographs and documents relating to Royston's past.

WHAT'S INCLUDED?

  • A range of replica and real objects, plus photographs and documentsPlease see below for the loan boxes available.

  • A teacher information pack including information about the contents and activity ideas.

  • 2 weeks hire with collection and drop-off at the Museum.

£40 for 2 weeks
